When including domestic cup competitions, international cup competitions, and matches for Argentina, Alvarez's totals are even more impressive: 29 goals, 17 assists in 69 games; 33 goals, 14 assists in 72 games; and 19 goals, 7 assists in 78 games, respectively.
Atletico Madrid paid a significant £81.5m (plus add-ons) for Alvarez's services, but he has adapted well to the team's physical and demanding style of play. He has played as a main striker, as well as in a big-man, little-man combination with Alexander Sorloth, and has dovetailed with Antoine Griezmann.
The speculation surrounding Alvarez's future is not surprising, given his talent and market value. Chelsea may be willing to offer €150m for his services, but it remains to be seen whether a transfer will take place.
Barcelona, who are long-term admirers of Alvarez, may also be a potential destination for the player. However, the club's financial issues make a switch to the Spotify Camp Nou unlikely in the near future.
