However, Gundogan points out that Wirtz had created more chances in the Premier League for Liverpool in the first six matchdays than any other player in the English top-flight.
Gundogan believes that the high expectations surrounding Wirtz's transfer fee are unfair and that people should look beyond just goals and assists to see the player's quality.
"With the high transfer fee for Flo, it was somehow clear that things could get very loud very quickly in England – unfortunately, that's the way the business works these days," Gundogan said.
Gundogan also noted that it's not Wirtz's fault that he cost so much, and that it's understandable for people to expect a lot from him.
In Gundogan's opinion, Wirtz's outstanding quality is being overlooked, and he thinks it's an exaggeration to call him a transfer flop already.
