Isak has since returned to Tyneside, but was reportedly instructed to train separately from the rest of the squad on Wednesday. Manager Eddie Howe has emphasized that players must earn the right to train with the group, and that no player can expect to act poorly and train with the group as normal.
The situation comes as Isak's future at Newcastle hangs in the balance, with Liverpool reportedly interested in signing him. The Reds have seen a £110 million bid for Isak rejected, and are seeking closer to £150 million. Newcastle are also struggling to finalise a deal to replace Isak, with Manchester United competing for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko.
Liverpool have spent over £250 million this window on several players, but have also recouped funds from the sales of several players. The Reds are close to completing a deal to sell Darwin Nunez to Al Hilal for £46 million, which would free up resources and space in the squad for another bid to sign Isak.
Since joining Newcastle for £63 million in 2022, Isak has scored 62 times in 109 appearances, including the goal that secured the club's first domestic trophy for 70 years in the League Cup final against Liverpool in March.
